Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in nearly every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of the game with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, and many shooting for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi/lo.
