Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha/8 starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further round of betting ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants often get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.

The low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated initially, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an overwhelming range of betting options and because you have many players shooting for the high hand, as well as a few shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi/low.
